Updated 9-17-2010: A new Google Voice client iPhone app has been released called GV Connect - read about it here.

We are very excited to announce a new feature in Notifo: Google Voice SMS Alerts! If you are logged in to Notifo, you can click the following link to take you to the Google Voice SMS settings page:

Opening Google Voice SMS Alerts

Opening Google Voice SMS alerts in Notifo is a little different than normal alerts, but here is the general flow:

Step One

You receive a Google Voice SMS alert.

Step Two

When you click "View" it will load inside the Notifo app. Tap it once to highlight the notification and expand it to full view.

Step Three

When you tap the message a second time, it will load the Google Voice website inside the app. Since apps do not have access to cookies from Safari, it will appear that you are logged out of Google Voice even if you are logged in with Safari. Tap the "Forward" button to reveal an options menu.

Step Four

Tap the "Open in Safari" button to load the conversation in the Safari browser.

Step Five

If you are already logged into Google Voice in Safari, you will be taken straight to the conversation view.

Notifications seem to work great, but replying is convoluted. I wish you could reply from within the app directly without having to go through the extra step of opening the Safari webapp. Any chance of that happening in the future?

Replying in the app is a tricky thing since you can only reply to GV SMS through the webapp or through your email. We're investigating better ways of doing it, but for now using the webapp is the best way.

The GV SMS push notifications are extremely delayed...I got a text in my chrome extension a good 10 mins before it showed up on my iPod touch 3rd gen (on Wifi the whole time)

@mtmjr89 - hmm, sorry to hear that. I see the notification went out as soon as the email was received. It could be an Apple network problem, perhaps? Please let us know if they continue to be delayed!

When I try to setup my filter in gmail I have to verify the forwarding email address. My filter screens have a link to "manage forwarding addresses" which takes me to a screen where I can send a verification email. Then I have to enter in the code from that verification email. Do you have a work around for this?

Hi Steve, it looks like GMail just changed its forwarding policy. I'm working on fixing it so that if you request to add push@gvsms.notifo.com, it will automatically accept the request. I'll make another announcement when it's fixed.
